Payment guide — 2026

Do I need a credit card to rent a car in Morocco?

Short answer: not always. Here are the payment types Moroccan agencies accept, what drives the deposit amount, and every document you need to walk out with the keys.

Key insight: Some partner agencies accept a debit card, often on the condition of full-coverage insurance, while others require a credit card — accepted payment methods are always shown on the offer before you book.

Accepted payment types

Which payment methods work in Morocco

Every method below is used in the Moroccan market. Whether it is accepted for a given booking depends on the partner agency and your insurance choice — always check the offer.

Credit card (Visa, Mastercard, Amex)

Depends on the partner agency and the selected offer

The default option at most agencies. The deposit is generally pre-authorized (blocked, not charged) on the driver's card. Accepted card networks depend on the partner agency and are shown on the offer.

Debit card (Visa Debit, Mastercard Debit)

Accepted by some partner agencies — always confirm on the offer

Some partner agencies accept a debit card, sometimes on the condition of full-coverage insurance (zero-excess). Whether the deposit is charged and refunded afterwards, or simply blocked, depends on the agency and your bank. Check the payment conditions shown on the offer before booking, or contact KARVYX if unsure.

Cash (MAD, EUR, USD)

For the rental itself · Not for the deposit

Some agencies accept cash for the rental fee. The security deposit generally needs a card — check the accepted payment methods on the offer before booking.

Prepaid cards, Revolut, N26, Wise

Case-by-case — always confirm before booking

A few partner agencies may accept prepaid or neobank cards if the balance covers the deposit. Non-reloadable gift cards are generally not accepted. Confirm with KARVYX or the agency before your pickup date.

Security deposit (caution)

How much deposit is blocked on your card

The deposit amount depends on the vehicle category, the insurance level and the partner agency's own terms, and is shown with the offer before payment. It is generally pre-authorized on a credit card, or charged and later refunded on a debit card, depending on the agency.

Economy
Generally the lowest deposit tier among the categories available.
Compact
Deposit level depends on the agency and the exact model offered.
SUV
Full-coverage insurance is often recommended at this tier.
Premium / Automatic
A credit card is more commonly requested at this tier, depending on the agency.

Confirm the deposit method before booking. Agencies generally block or charge the deposit on a card and issue a deposit slip. If an agency asks for a cash-only deposit with no receipt, contact KARVYX.

Documents required

What you must bring to the pickup counter

Missing any of these and the agency can legally refuse the rental without a refund. Prepare originals — photocopies alone are not enough.

Valid driving licence

Most agencies accept EU, UK, US, Canadian, Australian, GCC and many other national licences, generally held for a minimum duration. Minimum age and any young-driver conditions depend on the agency and vehicle category, and are shown on the offer.

Passport or Moroccan CIN

A passport is generally required for non-residents. Moroccan residents can typically use a national ID card (CIN). Exact requirements depend on the agency.

Card in the main driver's name

The card used for the deposit is generally expected to match the name on the driving licence. Whether a card held by another person can be used depends on the agency — check the conditions on the offer before booking.

International driving permit (optional)

Not required if your licence is in Latin script. Recommended for licences in Arabic, Cyrillic, Chinese, Japanese or Thai scripts, and can simplify roadside checks.

Renting without a credit card

Six rules to secure the booking with a debit card

  1. 1

When browsing KARVYX, check the accepted payment methods shown on each offer before booking.

  2. 2

Full-coverage (zero-excess) insurance can make it easier for an agency to accept a debit card — check the offer's conditions.

  3. 3

Confirm with your bank that your card's daily limit can cover the deposit plus the rental total in one transaction.

  4. 4

Some agencies may ask for proof of available balance; keep your banking app accessible.

  5. 5

If you also hold a credit card, carrying it as a backup can help if a payment method is not accepted at the counter.

  6. 6

Always ask for a signed deposit slip or receipt when a deposit is taken, whatever the payment method.
