How to choose the right car rental in Morocco
Renting a car is still the most flexible way to travel around Morocco. Motorways connect Casablanca, Rabat, Tangier, Fes and Marrakech, while many of the places travellers actually want to see — the Ourika valley, Ouzoud waterfalls, Chefchaouen, the Atlas passes or the road to Merzouga — have little or no public transport. Our guides break down the real prices charged by verified local agencies, season by season, plus the costs that are easy to miss: airport surcharge, additional driver, insurance excess, fuel policy and the security deposit.
Before booking, check three things: how the deposit is taken (credit card hold versus debit card acceptance), what the insurance actually covers (CDW, theft, glass, tyres) and the rules for out-of-hours returns. Prices swing a lot with the season: high season (April–May, October and the end-of-year holidays) can double the daily rate of a compact car compared with January or July. Booking two to four weeks ahead is usually enough to secure a good rate, especially for an automatic transmission or an SUV, which are the first categories to sell out.
