Deposits and payments: preparing your Morocco rental

This guide helps travellers understand what they pay, what may be held as security and what they may still owe if damage or theft occurs. It supports reading the terms before booking, checking them at collection and following up at return. It does not confirm card acceptance, an amount or an agency-specific timeframe.

1. Separate price, deposit, excess and cover

The price pays for the rental under the offer and its terms. The security deposit is the security required by the contract; ask what amount is involved and how it is arranged. An excess describes the portion that may remain payable by you under the applicable cover conditions.

A deposit is therefore not a complete description of your liability. Read the cover, exclusions and circumstances in which an amount can be claimed as well. This guide does not set a universal liability cap based on the deposit or the excess alone.

  • “What is the agreed total price, and which items are included or extra?”
  • “What deposit do you require, through which mechanism and under which conditions?”
  • “Which damage and theft excesses apply, and what are the exclusions?”

2. Check payment methods separately

Clarify the accepted method for each transaction: rental payment, any deposit and other sums provided for in the contract. Do not infer security requirements simply because a booking payment was accepted.

If you plan to use a debit card, credit card or another method, request confirmation for your offer. Acceptance depends on the agency; no card network, card type or other method is described here as accepted everywhere.

  • “Is this payment method accepted for both the price and the deposit?”
  • “Does the card have to be in a particular person's name?”
  • “Is an amount held, charged or secured another way? What record do you provide?”
  • “Which conditions should I check with my payment provider?”

3. Understand exactly what the no-deposit option means

The no-deposit option presented on KARVYX brings the security deposit down to 0 MAD for an eligible booking. It does not remove damage and theft excesses and must not be confused with comprehensive cover or a zero excess.

Eligibility depends on the agency, vehicle and, where applicable, a minimum age. Ask whether the option applies to your specific booking, whether it has a cost and which obligations remain in the contract; this guide sets no cost or minimum age.

Hypothetical example: an offer has a 0 MAD deposit but retains a damage excess. These two terms are compatible; the absence of a deposit is not enough to conclude that damage could never cost you anything.

4. Compare two offers, not just their deposits

For two offers you are considering, collect replies under the same headings: total price, deposit, payment method, excesses, cover, exclusions, cancellation and changes. Mark missing information as “to confirm” rather than treating the offers as identical.

Compare terms for the same dates, drivers and needs. A different option can change what is included; request confirmation of the intended contract rather than assuming the lowest-deposit offer is the cheapest or offers the most protection.

5. Check transactions and vehicle condition at collection

At collection, compare the contract's payment and security terms with the confirmation you received. Ask for an explanation of any difference before signing or authorising a transaction, and keep the records provided.

Take part in the inspection and ask for existing damage and any disagreement to be recorded. Photos may supplement your records if you can take them, but do not replace the paperwork or the procedure agreed with the agency.

  • Check excesses and exclusions, not just the deposit amount.
  • Clarify the agency contact and procedure if damage or theft occurs.
  • Ask which evidence will be used at return and how to raise a disagreement.

6. Follow up on the deposit without assuming a timeframe

Request a return inspection and a record of the vehicle handover under the agency's procedure. If a deduction or additional sum is mentioned, ask for the reason, applicable clause and supporting evidence.

Clarify how the security will be released or returned, who initiates the transaction and how to track it. Do not assume immediate release or a timeframe shared by all providers. If the expected transaction does not appear, contact the agency and then your payment provider with the relevant references.

Confirmations to keep

  • Price, inclusions and extras clarified.
  • Deposit, security mechanism and payment methods confirmed.
  • Damage/theft excesses, cover and exclusions read.
  • Eligibility and any cost of the no-deposit option checked for your booking.
  • Contract, transaction records and inspection reports kept.
  • Return conditions and contact for disagreements identified.

Frequently asked questions

Does no deposit mean no excess?
No. The option presented on KARVYX sets the deposit at 0 MAD for an eligible booking without removing damage and theft excesses. It means neither comprehensive cover nor a zero excess; read the contract and exclusions.
Can I use a debit card?
Ask the agency to confirm this for the chosen offer, separately for the price and the security. Acceptance for one transaction is not proof of acceptance for another.
Is the deposit charged or only held?
The agency must clarify this for your contract and payment method. Ask about the exact mechanism, amount, record provided and conditions of release or return.
When will I get the deposit back?
This guide confirms no timeframe. Ask for the agency's terms and the tracking arrangements with your payment provider. Keep the return record and transaction references.
What should I check if I dispute a deduction?
Ask for the reason, contractual clause and evidence, then compare them with your inspections and records. Ask about the agency's and payment provider's dispute procedures; no refund is guaranteed here.

Sources and scope

The commercial distinctions reuse the cautions in KARVYX's no-deposit and debit card pages. They are not a policy shared by all agencies. Amounts, cover, payment methods, eligibility and timeframes must be confirmed for the chosen offer.

Ready to look for a car?

Search for your dates on app.karvyx.com, then check the terms of the offer and the agency before booking. KARVYX connects travellers with independent agencies; the rental contract is made with the selected agency.
